Regional Partnership Forming in Eastern Colorado

June 18, 2024

The Karval Community Alliance is pleased to announce that it received a grant to establish a Colorado
Parks and Wildlife Regional Partnership in eastern Colorado. Governor Polis established the Regional
Partnership Initiative (RPI) five years ago. This year $525,930 will fund new and existing partnerships
across Colorado.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife awards the money to help propel innovative opportunities for stewarding
Colorado’s outdoors. The initiative seeks to maintain healthy wildlife in the state and promote equitable
outdoor recreation opportunities.

The new partnership is “The Eastern Grasslands Coalition.” It seeks to promote recreation and
conservation in Elbert, Lincoln, Washington, Yuma, Kit Carson, Cheyenne, and Kiowa counties. It expects
to work in both state owned lands and privately held property to enhance wildlife in eastern Colorado.
The Karval Community Alliance is seeking individuals and organizations who are interested in working as
partners on this project. Please contact Dan Merewether if you are interested at 719-446-5403.

The Eastern Grasslands Coalition is creating a website at www.eastern-grasslands-coalition.org. It is still
under construction. Please access it

The Regional Partnership will be hiring a Coordinator to help the coalition to get going. The job opening
will be posted on the website. Please access the website if you know somebody who might be
interested in the position.
